Rudraksh is a large evergreen broad-leaved tree. Its scientific name being Elaeocarpus ganitrus, the family is Tiliaceae. It is an evergreen tree having nearly 36 sister species including rudraksh. Rudraksh is fairly a fast-growing species. Because of its religious importance, the tree is seldom felled for its wood.
Only dead and dry ones are removed and their wood utilized for making packing cases, cheap furniture, etc.The main trunk of rudraksh tree is cylindrical. Its section is circular. The bark is greyish white and rough in texture with small vertical lenticel and narrow horizontal furrows. The leaves of rudraksh are shining green and serrulate in shape.
The flowers are ovoid,conical and elongate nearly 1 to 2 cm in diameter. Rudraksha seeds are covered by an outer husk of blue color when fully ripe, and for this reason, are also known as blueberry beads.
Water a plant when the soil feels dry to touch. Water thoroughly in the summer and reduce watering for the winter & rainy season.
After fertilizer application water should be given to the plant.

The rudraksh plant is propagated through seed or air layering. All plants prefer partial sunlight to light shade sites with well-draining and moderately fertile soil.
