Rhoeo plant has many nicknames like Moses-in-the-cradle, boat lily, oyster plant. It is a clump-forming, evergreen perennial that grows upto 12 inches, and produces glossy, sword-shaped leaves that are held upright, so both the deep green tops and rich purple undersides are visible. When the plant matures the leaves form a rosette, making the plant even more beautiful.
The plant produces flowers which bloom throughout the year, enclosed in boat shaped, purple braces.
Rhoeo is a hardy plant which can tolerate drought and multiplies quickly making it suitable to be used as a ground cover plant.But it also grow nicely in containers filling it with its beautiful colours.
Sunlight: Medium to bright indirect light is best for healthy growth.
Watering: Water normally and allow the soil to dry out completely between watering.
Pests: Monitor your plants for signs of mealy bugs, spider mites and whiteflies.
Repotting: May not require repotting for up to 4-5 years.
Fertiliser: During spring-summer feed once a month.
Care tips: Do not let water to sit at the bottom of the container. Too much heat can cause leaves to droop.
