Amaltas (Golden shower tree) is a medium sized tree. This tree provides the best change of color in the spring and summers. This is the state flower of God’s own country – Kerala.

The tree flowers profusely during late spring with vibrant yellow flowers that bloom in such quantities that the foliage of the tree is hidden completely and the tree looks like it the showering with yellow flowers. The flowers have medicinal benefits and it is used in Ayurveda.

Fruits are legumes, which are long and contain several seeds. When the winds blow the seeds pods create music.

But the tree is more than just looks. It is drought tolerant and can handle colds very nicely and grows nicely in wide range of soil conditions. This combination of beauty and durability makes for an enchanting sights in planters, near parks, and in streets.
