Washingtonia filifera palm

Washingtonia filifera is an evergreen Palm growing up to 12 m. This genus name honours George Washington, the first states. Unlike other palms, as the leaves die, they fold down against the stout trunk rather than dropping off.

Washingtonia Filifera Palm is well suited for home landscapes since it grows more slowly and is shorter. This also allows it to be used in garden applications, such as containers or grouped together as a mass planting.

It is in leaf all year round, and produces flowers from July to August. After flowering the berries ripen from November to January. Ripened berries can be eaten both fresh and dried, and the seeds can be ground into a meal.
